Got on my Traveling Shoes

I head out today for Washington DC for lunch with a friend who owns a communication company and before starting my book tour she will work with me to prepare for it. Then in the evening I will attend the annual meeting of the Leadership Washington Program - of which I was a graduate in 1998. Looking forward to rekindling relationships with friends and colleagues from those days. Then to Bowie, MD to stay overnight with my niece.

Tuesday I travel to Ellicott City, MD (near Baltimore) to play in a olf tournament for MD/DC Supplier Development council, an organization thru which I received many contracts when I had my business. Again, I'll have the chance to reconnect with friends and colleagues. Afterwards, back to Richmond and serious work. I'm looking forward to these trips.

I'm Back

I've been a little slack over the last few days. My-co-author and I have been busy reviewing the final edits from the publisher. Our last chance for changes before it costs me. The title has been finalized "The Road to Someplace Better: From the Segregated South to Harvard Business School and Beyond" and the cover has been approved. The marketing process has begun and initial response is quite positive. My marketing plan has been submitted to the published and we will review with the editor in a couple of days. Stay tuned.

Moving ahead

Yesterday my co-author and I began working of the edits of the manuscript which has been returned from the copy editor. Thankfully, the edits do not require major changes. I have been shown the book cover and am pleased with it. The publisher has changed the subtitle. The title is now, The Road to Someplace Better: From the Segregated South to Harvard Business School and Beyond. For those not familiar with publishing, if you go with a publishing house instead of self publishing, they have final say on the book, title and cover. However, the author does have input. Overall I am pleased the the direction things are going.

Today I will attend the Enterprising Women of Excellence Awards luncheon for the National Association of Women Business Owners, Richmond Chapter. Hope to do a bit of networking.

Powerful Women

The "Uncommon Height" Gala last night in DC had more than 2100 attendees. It was packed. Dr.Dorothy Height is phenomenal! At the age of 97, though physically faille, her mind is sharp. She told story after story with no notes. There is something to be said for continuing to keep the mind active. Oprah was the honoree with both Maya Angelou and Cicely Tyson paying tribute to her.

Today I head back to Richmond. It is raining so we'll have to drive carefully. I'll convince my husband to drive after getting out of DC (he doesn't drive in DC). Then back to work. Lots of things happening. Exciting time. Just had a conversation with the editor at Wiley on the subtitle. Not sure what the final decision (they have final say) will be but think it will be something I'll be happy with. Expect to see the cover design in a few days. Moving forward.

Great Time IN DC

I'm on a(working)mini-vacation in DC. Came to play in a member/guest golf tournament with a friend. This is at least the 5th year we have played. We never win anything but we have so much fun!. Met some new friends - one of the ladies on the team is married to a guy who graduated in my class at Harvard Business School. He knew of me but i did not know him.

After playing in the AM, I did some work in the afternoon. Had a great marketing brainstorm session with my golf buddy. She then took me to a neat independent bookstore where she introduced me to the owner and I told her of my forthcoming book. She expressed an interest in including me as one of the stores events of the month. Tonight I'll be attending the Dr. Dorothy Height Gala. Will tell you about it.

Make it a good day!

It's A Good Day

I feel rejuvenated after returning from my exercise class. It did not take as much effort to get out this morning. Looked forward to it. It'll spend a couple of hours catching up on emails, doing some marketing then meeting a colleague for lunch. This afternoon, my husband and I will try a new golf course not far from our home. That probably means I have to work some tonight but I must be sure to include time for my spouse in my plans. It will be a great day!!!
