Good Publicity

I just got my copy of the May issue of Upscale Magaine. I am part of a featured article "A Woman's Work" p. 60. Check it out.

The radio show on Love Broadcasting went well yesterday. Today has been a hodgepodge of activities. Attended my Kiwanis breakfast meeting (7AM) then to my home office for work. Participated in an informative teleseminar on "Instant Product, Instant Marketing" which talked about how to use Twitter to promote your product. I still must get"acclimated" to Twitter. For the rest of the day I am preparing for a marketing strategy conference call with my editor and publicist.

Get Energized

Back in VA

I am back in VA and it's not so bad. The weather is beautiful. I have a bit to do to get back into the routine, unpacking things brought back from FL, opening mail (it's amazing how much junk mail I received that the post officefor just 4 days). I will spend more time on Wed. preparing as guest on an Internet radio show, www.lovebroadcasting.com., from 6-7 PM. Please tune in.

Goodbye Sarasota, FL

Today is my last full day in Sarasota, FL, flying back to Richmond, VA tomorrow. Lots to do today to close up the condo here. In addition, I must get my final manicure and pedicure. I strongly believe in "be good to myself day". I also have a couple of conference calls to continue work on developing my promotion strategy for the bock. I am continuing to look for speaking engagements for Black History Month and Women's History Month 2010. Also looking for book signings opportunities. Have a great day!

From Swastika to Jim Crow

I saw an interesting firm today,FROM SWASTIKA TO JIM CROW, presented by the Association for the Study of African American Life and History. It was the story of many Jewish scholars who came to this country as refugees from Europe and found they could get jobs only in black colleges. They impacted the lives of many of those students.

Great Marketing Ideas

My publicist & I had a great conversation today with Selena Cuffe, the owner of Heritage Link Brands, a company that distributes wine produced by indigenous African vintners and people of African descent. Circle of Friends

Had a great conference call today with my publicist and a good friend in Richmond, who seems to know everybody. She suggested a concept for my marketing strategy that makes lots of sense. With the "Circle of Friends" concept you identify someone in various organizations/groups who can carry your message at the grassroots level so when you make contact, your name is recognized or when the organization or group has a need that you can fulfill your name comes up. I will be using this to promote my book. Anyone out there who is willing to be in my Circle of Friends?

Making Contacts

I had a great weekend, played golf Sat & Sun but now its back to work, at least until noon. I'll spend the morning contacting friends and acquaintances to tell them about the book and ask for their help in promoting it. In the afternoon, I'll travel to Sun City Center, FL (about 40miles away) to visit a high school schoolmate whom I have not seen since shortly after graduation. Should be an interesting day.

Back to work

After a fun day of having my friends visit from Kissimmee, FL it's back to work today. My co-author, Rosemary Brutico and I will be talking today about persons to target for testimonials and further details about our marketing plan. So much to do and time will pass quickly.

I have been busy identifying possible speaking commitments as a part of my marketing plan which is due to the publisher in June. Between the Internet and the library there is so much information available. Today I will take a break. A friend from my college days will be visiting from Kissimmee. FL and bring two couples who are visiting her from Canada. I look forward to an enjoyable day.

Tax Day

Happy income tax day! Have you filed your return? If so you are probably one of those getting or have already gotten a refund. If you got a refund, you loaned your money to the government interest free. If it was a large refund, you could have made a few dollars in interest (even with today's meager rates) if you increased your exemptions, brought home more in your paycheck and invested the extra money. It does take discipline. So check that W-4 at work.



Was it frustrating to gather all that information to get your taxes completed? It's not too late to set up a simple system so you know where your tax information is month-by-month. Well, Apr 15 is here and I expect to get out the checkbook when my accountant gives me the word. Yes, I'm one of those Apr. 15 filers. Why pay early?

I hope everyone had a happy Easter. I did, starting with sunrise service, a round golf with friends, then home to watch The Masters. For a while I thought Tiger Woods would again be the come from behind winner but he lost it near the end. Oh well, he can't win them all.

There are some exciting days ahead for me. Last week my editor, co-author and I had a conference call to discuss marketing and promotion of the book. The book titled, The Road to Someplace Better, A Memoir by the First Black Woman Harvard MBA, will publish Jan 25, 2010. I will spend today gathering information on organizations I want to approach for publicity, book signing and speaking engagements. I will keep the stress under control by maintaining my exercise routine, eating properly and getting enough sleep. I'm off to aerobic dance to start my day.

A Healthy Mind and Body

Too often we overlook the importance of preventive maintenance for our mind and body. Daily exercise is crucial for a healthy body and pleasant thoughts are good for a healthy mind. So off to the gym I go this morning for my aerobic dance class and I will carry with me pleasant thought . Then back to the drawing board to work on my book promotion

Happy Anniversary to me! (Johnny too) Today is our 10th wedding anniversary.

Today was a great day. Played a round of golf in the morning with 3 friend. Good round. Spent the afternoon working on promotion for my upcoming book. Publish date Jan 25, 2010.
